Overview
A specialist SEND provision in March is recruiting a Speech, Language and Communication Practitioner to join their multidisciplinary team from September. The school supports pupils with a wide range of communication needs, including developmental language disorder, autism spectrum condition, speech sound difficulties, social communication challenges and complex learning needs.
Working closely with educational staff and Speech and Language Therapists, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils develop the communication skills required to access education, build relationships and achieve greater independence.
This is a full-time opportunity that has the potential to become a permanent role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver structured speech, language and communication interventions under the guidance of qualified professionals.
- Support pupils with expressive language, receptive language, speech clarity and social communication needs.
- Implement communication strategies and therapy recommendations throughout the school day.
- Adapt classroom resources and learning activities to maximise communication accessibility.
- Use visual supports, communication aids, symbols, PECS, Makaton and assistive technology where appropriate.
- Facilitate opportunities for communication during lessons, social situations and structured interventions.
- Support pupils to develop listening, attention, turn-taking, conversational and social interaction skills.
- Monitor, record and evaluate progress against communication targets and EHCP outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with therapists, teachers, parents and carers to ensure consistency across settings.
- Promote pupil confidence, independence and active participation in all aspects of school life.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with speech, language and communication needs.
- Understanding of SEND, autism and communication development.
- Knowledge of communication interventions and alternative communication methods desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Patient, supportive and highly organised approach.
- Experience within education, therapy support, childcare or SEND settings beneficial.
- Relevant qualifications in Education, SEND, Child Development, Therapy Support or equivalent experience desirable.
Pay: £95.00-£115.00 per day
