The Insurance Technology team are keen to assign a QA Engineer on an internal move for 3 to 4 months for the testing resource of the up-and-coming launch of our latest new insurance product in Oct 2026!
You will play a vital role within the NPD delivery process, ensuring that all products and changes are delivered to the highest standards of quality, with a consistent focus on excellence and always putting Saga’s customers first.
As our Quality Assurance Engineer on this project, you will ensure the reliability and accuracy of NPD deliverables by rigorously testing web service APIs and validating data integrity across backend systems. This role is central to maintaining high-quality outputs through well designed test strategies, defect identification, and verification of expected system behaviour. By collaborating closely with developers, technical business analysts, and product teams, the QA Engineer helps deliver robust solutions that support a seamless and trustworthy customer experience.
Main Responsibilities
As a Quality Assurance Engineer your main responsibilities are:
- Design and execute API tests — Create, maintain, and run functional, integration, and regression tests for REST web service APIs to ensure reliability and correct system behaviour.
- Validate backend data — Perform SQL-based data checks, compare expected vs actual results, and ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across databases.
- Analyse requirements and acceptance criteria — Collaborate with Technical Business Analysts and Product Owners to clarify requirements and translate them into test scenarios and test cases.
- Log and manage defects in JIRA — Raise clear, reproducible defects, track progress and support teams in root-cause analysis.
- Work within project delivery teams — Participate in stand-ups, contribute to sprint planning, and ensure quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle.
- Support BAU testing activities — Handle ongoing operational testing, validate fixes, and ensure stability of existing services and integrations.
- Develop and maintain test documentation — Produce test plans, test cases, test data sets, and execution reports to maintain traceability and auditability.
- Perform end to end system validation — Verify that API interactions, data flows, and downstream processes function correctly across integrated systems.
- Collaborate with developers and stakeholders — Work closely with engineering teams to clarify issues, support debugging, and ensure timely resolution of defects.
- Contribute to continuous improvement — Identify opportunities to enhance test coverage, automation potential, and overall QA processes.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards — Follow established QA frameworks, best practices, and governance to maintain consistent delivery quality.
- Support release readiness — Validate deployment packages, confirm test completion, and provide go/no go input for releases.
The Ideal Candidate
You will already have gained practical experience testing web APIs and performing SQL based backend data validation, with the ability to work effectively across project teams and BAU activities while managing defects and workflows in JIRA. You will also demonstrate the following skills:
- API testing expertise
- SQL and database validation
- Test case design
