Production Team Leader
The Team Leader is responsible for supporting the Shift Supervisor in ensuring the efficient day-to-day running of the production operation. This includes leading and motivating a production team, maintaining high standards of quality, food safety and health & safety, while achieving production targets and customer requirements.
Production Team Leader Key Responsibilities
- Report to the Shift Supervisor, ensuring production operations run safely, efficiently and to schedule.
- Liaise with Quality Control and Stock teams regarding raw material availability and quality issues.
- Maintain effective communication between production, quality, warehouse and management teams.
- Support factory management in planning production requirements and resource allocation.
- Monitor and drive continuous improvement against departmental KPIs.
- Maximise raw material utilisation while meeting customer quality standards and production deadlines.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards by ensuring work areas are clean, organised and compliant with site procedures.
- Assess product quality based on weight, size, colour, maturity, appearance and other relevant quality attributes.
- Ensure customer specifications relating to quality, packaging, labelling and date coding are consistently achieved.
- Complete production documentation accurately and on time, including productivity records, quality checks and production reports.
- Lead, coach, motivate and develop production team members to build a flexible and high-performing workforce.
- Conduct performance monitoring, provide feedback and support disciplinary processes where required.
- Communicate product updates, specification changes, quality issues, customer feedback and company information clearly to the team.
- Effectively manage labour resources, including permanent and agency staff, to achieve production targets.
- Lead by example by actively supporting production activities where required.
- Promote and enforce Food Safety, Food Hygiene, Health & Safety and company procedures across the production area.
- Take responsibility for the safe operation of equipment, working practices and production areas within your control.
- Ensure production system data and work order information is completed accurately and within required timescales.
- Oversee multiple production lines where operationally required.
Production Team Leader's Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within a manufacturing or food production environment.
- Leadership potential with a willingness to develop into a more senior operational management role.
- Flexibility to support the Operations Manager and Shift Supervisor as business needs require.
- Strong team leadership skills with the ability to motivate and gain the respect of colleagues.
- Good understanding of product quality standards and customer expectations.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly regarding documentation and record keeping.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Strong communication skills across all levels of the business.
- Understanding of Food Safety, Food Hygiene and Health & Safety requirements.
- Basic knowledge of the fresh produce or food manufacturing sector is desirable.
- Experience supporting the training and development of team members.
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy with a proactive attitude.
