Pinelodge Care Home in Stevenage is looking for a handy person to maintain and upkeep the property and grounds.
We are looking for someone who is flexible, hardworking and can use their initiative. The job is varied and no two days are the same. You will need to be a team player and happy to lend a hand wherever needed.
You will be required to carry out general DIY duties around the building. Ideally you will have a background in maintenance and DIY.
Main duties include:
· Undertake all routine maintenance tasks and minor general repair as requested by the Home Manager.
· To check the maintenance request book for tasks to be completed. Set priorities with the managers.
· On a weekly basis undertake the fire alarm test and routine check of the room fire doors, security doors and window restrictors.
· On a weekly basis undertake a routine check of wheelchairs, reclining chairs and nursing beds.
· To take delegated responsibility for emergency lighting checks and fire alarm tests.
· On a monthly basis undertake delegated responsibilities for the visual check of the firefighting apparatus e.g. Extinguishers and Hydrants including fire exit doors or assist outside contractors to do so.
· Boiler room: checking water hardness, check water temperatures within the boiler room, keeping accurate records and informing the Home Manager on a daily basis. Keep the water softener topped up with salt.
· Assist staff with moving furniture as requested.
· Purchase and collection of consumable control of maintenance stock. Ensure enough supply as needed.
· Report to the manager if a particular job falls outside the Training/ Skill of the post holder. Liaising with trades and contractors working in the homes.
· Changing door locks or door handles either manual or electronic (new pass code programming).
· Moving beds and furniture as needed within the home.
· Distribution of pads, chemicals and other consumables for residents, kitchen and cleaners.
The position is full time, Monday to Friday, occasional weekend work maybe required. Salary will be discussed at interview.
