Our Landscaping client based in London is looking for skilled Landscape Chargehand to join their team on permanent basis.
This is a hybrid role covering both soft landscaping and minor hard landscaping works.
Covering the M1 corridor between Borehamwood/Watford and Luton/Dunstable, including St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and the surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and work alongside a small team of landscapers.
- Organise daily activities to achieve programme dates and productivity targets.
- Undertake all aspects of soft landscaping, including:
- Tree planting, including mature and semi-mature trees.
- Using excavators, telehandlers and suitable lifting equipment to position larger trees.
- Shrub, hedge and general planting.
- Turf laying and ground preparation.
- Soil preparation, cultivation, mulching and finishing works.
- Undertake minor hard landscaping, including:
- Installing fencing.
- Constructing pathways.
- Minor paving and edging works.
- Basic groundworks and associated landscape construction.
- Read and understand construction drawings, planting plans and specifications.
- Set out works accurately from drawings and setting-out information.
- Check that works are completed to the required specification and quality standard.
- Work independently when required and confidently supervise others.
- Plan ahead to ensure the correct labour, plant, materials and equipment are available.
- Report daily progress to the Contracts Manager, including progress photographs via WhatsApp.
- Complete basic site paperwork, including daily records, plant checks and quality documentation.
- Maintain safe and tidy working areas and ensure the team follows company health and safety procedures.
- Take responsibility for the quality of the finished work and address any issues before leaving an area.
- Essential Experience and Requirements
The successful candidate must have:
- Proven experience in commercial soft landscaping.
- Experience in tree planting, general planting and turfing.
- Experience in fencing, pathways and minor paving works.
- Experience planting mature trees using mechanical lifting methods.
- The ability to read drawings and work from planting and setting-out plans.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The confidence to lead others and drive works forward to meet agreed targets.
- The ability to work independently without constant supervision.
- Good communication skills and the ability to provide clear daily updates.
- A strong eye for detail and genuine pride in producing quality work.
- A valid CSCS card appropriate to the role.
- Desirable Qualifications
Tickets or proven competence in any of the following would be advantageous:
- 360° excavator.
- Telehandler.
- Forward-tipping dumper.
- Plant and vehicle marshal.
- CAT and Genny.
- Abrasive wheels.
- First aid.
Working Hours:
- A minimum of eight working hours on site each day.
- Overtime is regularly available.
- Reasonable overtime may be required to meet the operational needs and programme commitments of the business.
- Travel time exceeding the first hour of the journey from the employee’s home is paid in accordance with company policy.
