Salary: £26,403 - £26,824 full time equivalent (plus enhancements)
Inclusive hourly rate: £15.33 - £15.58 depending on experience
Enhancements: Weekend working - Time & a half, Bank Holidays - Double time & Night enhancement (21:45 - 07:45 shifts)
Working Pattern: Part-time, 20 hours per week
Contract Length: Permanent
Location: Stanhope Lodge, Worthing
As a Night Support Worker, you will:
- Provide personal physical, emotional care and support during a waking night shift.
- Listen to people and treat all with respect, kindness and dignity.
- Undertake light domestic duties as required to ensure cleanliness, comfort, and safety for people we support throughout the day e.g., laundry, or safely cleaning an area after a person has needed personal care.
- Complete regular hourly checks around the service, to include checking on people’s wellbeing and on the security of the building.
You will work as part of a team based within a residential setting. As a Night Support Worker, you will be required to provide safe, effective, and personalised support and care in supporting individuals to bed, getting up in the morning and responding to their emotional and physical wellbeing as required during the night.
This is an active role and there will be some requirements for moving and handling, for example, assisting people to walk, moving people between a wheelchair and chair using a hoist etc.
You will be required to be on duty for up to a 10-hour shift, during which time you are required to stay awake and able to provide appropriate care. There may be a need to work evenings or weekends to meet the needs of the service.

We provide individualised care and support with an emphasis on promoting independence and choice to help people to enjoy their lives and maintain existing, or develop new, skills, interests, opportunities, and friendships.
The staff team are keen to promote and develop community links and to enable
people to be a part of the community they live in. Some people also attend day opportunity services in the local area where they can enjoy chosen activities and connect with their friends. The home welcomes visits and involvement from families and friends of those living and staying there.
What you need to succeed
You’ll need to demonstrate a basic understanding of working with people with learning disabilities, people with dementia and other cognitive impairments, and adults with physical and sensory impairments.
Experience and skills (These will be used as the shortlisting criteria)
Key Skills:
1. Ability to build relationships with people from a wide variety of cultural,
religious and ethnic backgrounds, and ensure their views are heard and their needs are met.
2. Ability to organise / prioritise work, co-ordinate a variety of tasks and work as part of a team.
3. Ability to adapt communication to the needs of the individual - e.g. those who might be less able to express themselves and understand non-verbal communication.
4. Ability to recognise the purpose for behaviours that others may find challenging, and be able to respond appropriate and in line with the Positive Behaviour Support guidance.
5. Ability to interpret written material and create clear written reports.
6. Ability to assess and recognise situations that need to be escalated to seniors and/or line managers.
Qualifications and/or experience:
- Minimum of 4 GCSE's including English Language and Maths, or equivalent qualification, or demonstratable equivalent comparable experience
- QCF Level 2 or Diploma in care or equivalent qualification is desirable. However, if qualification is not held, there will be an expectation to undertake the Diploma within 6 months of commencing the role.
- Previous experience or knowledge / skills of supporting people with personal care duties e.g. washing, changing people with learning disabilities.
- Basic Health and Safety knowledge
- Understanding of safe moving and handling of people - Desirable
- Demonstratable experience of working with people with a learning disability, dementia, physical disabilities and / or autism, depending on setting - Desirable
You’ll be comfortable following basic procedures and clear instructions so that little close supervision is necessary, for example determining actions needed in accordance with provider plan or health and safety.
You’ll have the ability to support people to grow in confidence, and a desire to develop their ability to do the things they want to. You’ll have a good working knowledge of safeguarding and managing risks, and you’ll be able to raise concerns in relation to individuals through recognising verbal, physical or behavioural changes and signs.
You’ll be comfortable following basic procedures and clear instructions so that little close supervision is necessary, for example determining actions needed in accordance with provider plan or health and safety.
