Furniture Maker / Workshop Assistant
About the role
Inherit is a design-led furniture studio based between Chipping Norton and Banbury, producing our collection of made-to-order furniture for residential and commercial interiors.
We’re looking for a Furniture Maker / Workshop Assistant to join our small workshop team for 3–4 days per week.
The role would suit someone at the beginning of their furniture-making career who wants to develop their practical skills, as well as someone with existing workshop experience who is comfortable working more independently. Experience is useful, but attitude, attention to detail and a willingness to learn are equally important.
The role is initially freelance/self-employed, with the opportunity to develop into a permanent position and take on greater responsibility as the studio grows.
Responsibilities
- Making and assembling pieces from our existing furniture collection
- Cutting, routing, drilling and preparing timber and sheet materials
- Sanding and preparing components
- Furniture assembly and general woodworking
- Applying oils, stains and other finishes
- Working accurately from drawings, dimensions and templates
- Assisting with packing, deliveries and installations where required
- Maintaining an organised, clean and safe workshop
Experience & Skills
- Some furniture-making, woodworking or workshop experience is preferred, but we are open to different levels of experience
- Confident using hand and power tools
- Experience with routers, sanders, drills and saws is beneficial
- Good practical problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and finish
- Reliable, proactive and happy working as part of a small team
- Able to work independently once familiar with our processes
- Must be able to drive due to the rural workshop location
Hours & Pay
3–4 days per week, with some flexibility around days.
£12–£18 per hour depending on experience.
There is scope for the role to grow with the studio, potentially developing into a full-time permanent position with greater responsibility for the workshop.
Pay: £12.00-£18.00 per hour
