Job Summary
Aylesbury Premier Building Services (APBS) is seeking a versatile and experienced Multi Trade Operative to join our growing team. Based in Aylesbury and operating across Buckinghamshire and the surrounding areas, the successful candidate will carry out a wide range of maintenance, repair, and improvement works across residential, commercial, and community properties. This is a hands-on role requiring a proactive attitude, strong workmanship across multiple trades, and the ability to deliver high-quality results whilst providing an excellent experience for our clients and their residents. You will be comfortable working independently or as part of a team, managing your time effectively and representing APBS professionally on every visit.
Duties
- Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs and planned maintenance works across a variety of trades including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, patch repairs, tiling, painting and decorating, and general building works.
- Complete void property works to a high standard, ensuring properties are returned to a lettable condition efficiently and in line with client specifications.
- Undertake planned maintenance programmes, including kitchen and bathroom upgrades, door and window replacements, and other improvement works as directed.
- Diagnose and resolve defects across multiple trades, identifying the most effective and cost-efficient solution.
- Liaise professionally and courteously with residents, tenants, housing association staff, care home personnel, school facilities teams, and other client representatives, ensuring a positive experience throughout every job.
- Adapt communication style to suit a wide range of clients and environments, from occupied social housing properties to commercial and community settings.
- Ensure all works are completed in compliance with health and safety legislation, COSHH requirements, and APBS's own quality standards.
- Accurately record all works completed using job management systems, including materials used, time on site, and any follow-up actions required.
- Flag and report any additional defects or safeguarding concerns identified during visits to the appropriate contact.
- Support colleagues and apprentices on site where required, sharing knowledge and maintaining a positive team culture.
- Represent APBS professionally at all times, upholding the company's reputation for quality, reliability, and excellent customer service.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Multi Trade Operative, ideally within social housing, planned maintenance, voids, or a similar property services environment.
- Competent across a broad range of trades including carpentry, plumbing, plastering/patch repairs, tiling, and general building works with a primary trade qualification desirable.
- Experience of void property works and an understanding of lettable standards.
- Familiarity with planned maintenance programmes and the ability to work to schedules and specifications.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with residents and a wide range of clients.
- Comfortable working in occupied properties, demonstrating sensitivity and professionalism at all times.
- Ability to work independently, manage your own workload, and prioritise tasks effectively with minimal supervision.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to complete job records accurately.
- Full UK driving licence (essential).
- DBS check will be required, experience working in regulated environments such as housing, care, or education is advantageous.
- CSCS card desirable.
