GMP Recruitment are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of one of Cambridge's most prestigious colleges for an experienced Pastry Chef (Chef de Partie level) to join their talented and professional hospitality team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly regarded collegiate environment, producing exceptional pastry and dessert offerings for Fellows, students, staff, conference delegates and distinguished guests. Working alongside the Head Chef and Senior Pastry Chef, you will play a key role in delivering creative, seasonal desserts while maintaining the highest standards of quality, presentation and food safety.
The Role
As Pastry Chef, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the pastry section, ensuring consistently high standards across all dessert production. You will assist with developing seasonal pastry menus, conference desserts and special event offerings while helping to maintain excellent kitchen organisation and stock control.
This is a full-time permanent position working an average of 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis, including evenings, weekends and occasional additional hours to support College events and conferencing.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, produce and present exceptional pastries and desserts to the College's high standards.
- Assist in coordinating the daily operation of the pastry section.
- Support the development of seasonal dessert menus and conference offerings.
- Ensure consistency, quality and presentation across all pastry production.
- Help manage food costs and minimise waste while maintaining quality.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene, HACCP, COSHH and Health & Safety standards.
- Ensure full compliance with allergen legislation and dietary requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organised and well-stocked pastry kitchen.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and stock rotation.
- Work collaboratively with the wider kitchen brigade to deliver outstanding service.
- Wear and maintain a clean professional uniform at all times.
- Support additional kitchen duties as required by the Head Chef.
About You
- Previous experience within a professional pastry kitchen, ideally at Chef de Partie level.
- City & Guilds 706/1 & 2, NVQ Level 1 & 2, or an equivalent pastry/baking qualification.
- Excellent pastry skills with a keen eye for detail and presentation.
- Strong understanding of HACCP, COSHH, food safety and allergen legislation.
- Well organised with excellent time management skills.
- Friendly, approachable and a genuine team player.
- Able to communicate effectively with colleagues and senior management.
- Flexible to work early, late, weekend and split shifts when required.
- Passionate about developing your skills and keeping up to date with industry trends.
