To provide safe, compassionate, and professional support to residents requiring hospital attendance during waking night hours. The post holder will escort residents from the care home to hospital, remain with them where and for however long is required during Night Shift Hours (9pm - 7am), and support their care, safety, dignity, and wellbeing throughout the hospital visit until they are safely returned to the home or alternative arrangements are made.
The role primarily supports residents who are subject to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) or other legal frameworks and who require continuous supervision, reassurance, and support while receiving treatment away from the care home. This is also applicable to Residents whom are subject to other complex medical treatment plans.
As a Bank Waking Night Support Worker, you will work on a flexible, as-required basis with no guaranteed minimum hours.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to requests to escort residents to hospital during waking night hours.
Accompany residents safely via ambulance or other authorised transport.
Provide reassurance, emotional support, and practical assistance throughout the hospital visit.
Ensure residents remain safe and receive appropriate supervision in accordance with their individual care plan, risk assessment, and any authorised DoLS arrangements.
Maintain the resident's dignity, privacy, choice, and independence wherever possible.
Liaise professionally with hospital staff, ambulance crews, family members (where appropriate), and the care home's management team.
Communicate relevant information regarding the resident's health needs, medication, communication preferences, behaviours, risks, and care requirements.
Remain with the resident until responsibility has been appropriately transferred or until instructed by the Registered Manager or senior member of staff.
Accurately complete records, incident reports, and handover documentation.
Report any concerns regarding safeguarding, health deterioration, or changes in condition immediately.
Follow all organisational policies, including safeguarding, infection prevention and control, confidentiality, health and safety, and lone working procedures.
Support the care home's emergency response arrangements when requested.
Responsibilities Relating to DoLS and Mental Capacity
The post holder will:
Understand and work within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Support residents who are subject to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) authorisations.
Ensure care is provided using the least restrictive approach appropriate to the individual's needs.
Promote residents' rights, dignity, and best interests at all times.
Escalate any concerns regarding capacity, consent, restrictive practice, or safeguarding to the appropriate senior staff member.

Working Hours
This is a Bank (Zero Hours) position.
No guaranteed hours.
Shifts will be offered according to operational requirements.
Primarily waking night shifts.
Some assignments may be of varying duration depending on the resident's clinical needs and hospital discharge arrangements.
