Long Term Futures is recruiting a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time role within a welcoming secondary school in Barnet. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, the SENCO, pastoral teams, and external professionals to provide tailored support for students across KS3 and KS4. The role involves supporting students with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Responsibilities

Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with Special Educational Needs across KS3 and KS4.

Supporting students to access the curriculum and engage positively in lessons.

Assisting with the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support strategies.

Supporting students with their academic progress, social development, and emotional well-being.

Working collaboratively with teachers to adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.

Implementing strategies recommended by external professionals, including speech and language therapists and educational psychologists.

Encouraging independence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours.

Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teachers, SEN staff, and parents/carers where appropriate.

Supporting behaviour management in line with the school's policies and procedures.

Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
Essential Candidate Requirements

Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, or in a similar role.

Experience supporting secondary-aged students with Special Educational Needs is highly desirable.

Knowledge of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and SEMH needs.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.

A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach when supporting young people with additional needs.

A genuine passion for supporting students' educational and personal development.

The ability to work effectively as part of a wider SEN and pastoral team.

Must hold a valid enhanced DBS check on the update service.
