About the Estate
We are a group of privately owned related companies operating across the rural sector. The group's core activities include the management of an arable farming enterprise — encompassing crop production, land management, and associated contracting — alongside a bloodstock operation involved in the breeding, rearing, and sale of thoroughbred horses. Each entity within the group operates as a distinct legal company, with shared management and a close-knit team.
The Role
This is a hands-on, varied role that sits at the heart of the group's financial operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records across all companies within the group and assisting in the production of timely management information to support informed decision-making. You will work closely with the Finance Manager and other key farm personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the purchase and sales ledgers across all companies within the group
- Process supplier invoices, staff expenses, and payment runs across multiple entities
- Bank reconciliations for multiple accounts across the group
- Credit control and management of debtor accounts
- VAT returns for each registered entity, with assistance from Finance Manager
- Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions and loans between group companies
- Process payroll on a monthly basis, and manage payments for contractors and CIS submissions
- Assist in the preparation of management accounts on a monthly/quarterly basis as relevant
- Assist with annual budgeting and cash flow forecasting
- Assist in the preparation of year-end schedules and working papers for the external accountants for relevant entities
- Ensure consistent financial controls and procedures are applied across all group companies
- Ad-hoc financial reporting, and operational data management as required
Person Specification
- AAT qualified (Level 4)
- Proven experience in a bookkeeping role
- Strong working knowledge of Xero accounting software
- Competent with Microsoft Excel
- Sound understanding of VAT, payroll, and MTD compliance
- High degree of accuracy, numeracy, and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload to meet deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and discretion in handling confidential financial information
