Service Delivery Manager / Transport Manager
Location: Clacton-on-Sea, Essex
Contract: Approximately 12–15 months
Hours: Monday to Friday, 06:30–15:00
Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum
The Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Service Delivery Manager / Transport Manager to join a busy operational team in Clacton, Essex, supporting a major waste and environmental services contract.
This is a demanding, hands-on role requiring someone who can confidently manage the day-to-day operation while maintaining constant communication with both the management team and frontline operatives, including drivers and loaders.
You will play a key role in ensuring the service runs safely, efficiently and to the required operational standards, dealing with issues as they arise and making sure the workforce is fully supported throughout the working day.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day delivery of the operational service.
- Manage and coordinate drivers, loaders and other frontline operatives.
- Maintain regular communication with the management team and operational workforce.
- Monitor attendance, staffing levels and daily deployment.
- Allocate work and resources to ensure services are delivered effectively.
- Deal promptly with operational issues, delays, absences and service disruptions.
- Monitor driver and vehicle performance and escalate any issues where required.
- Ensure company, client and health & safety procedures are followed.
- Support the management team with daily operational reporting and administration.
- Monitor service performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records relating to staffing, vehicles, incidents and operational performance.
- Communicate clearly with drivers and loaders throughout the working day.
- Assist with investigations, performance management and operational meetings where required.
- Build positive working relationships with both the client and operational workforce.
- Ensure contractual service requirements and KPIs are consistently achieved.
About You
We are looking for an experienced office-based or operational professional who is confident managing people and dealing with a fast-paced transport or service delivery environment.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a transport, logistics, waste, fleet or service delivery environment.
- Experience coordinating or managing a frontline workforce.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- The confidence to deal with drivers, loaders and management at all levels.
- Strong administration and computer skills.
- The ability to prioritise and make decisions under pressure.
- A proactive approach to resolving operational problems.
- The ability to remain calm and professional in a demanding environment.
- Good attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
- Experience working with transport systems, rotas, workforce planning or operational reporting would be advantageous.
A background in waste management, refuse collection, logistics or transport operations would be highly desirable.
