Purpose of the Role
To engineer jigs, fixtures and programming of CNC machines, as well as liaising with manufactures to ensure tooling is running to optimum quality standards. The role is to support the Product Design team when developing new products into the production stage and overseeing full sign off for production handover.
Key Tasks
- Review and approve production tooling, ensuring it meets design and quality requirements.
- Liaise with suppliers and the supply chain to progress tooling and resolve technical queries.
- Attend and review tooling trials, assessing first off samples and sign-off readiness (potential for overseas travel).
- Carry out dimensional checking of components against drawings and specifications to confirm conformance.
- Audit and improve existing production assembly methods to enhance quality, efficiency and cost.
- Conduct time and motion studies to inform assembly methods, resourcing and continuous improvement.
- Manage and control the existing tooling portfolio, coordinating maintenance, modification and replacement.
- Design and develop production jigging and fixtures using 3D CAD and 3D printing.
- Product details 2D component and assembly drawings.
- Product and maintain parts lists and bills of materials.
Key Objectives
- Ensure production tooling is reviewed, approved and signed off to agreed timescales and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate control and records of the existing tooling portfolio.
- Improve assembly efficiency and reduce production costs through methods audits and time and motion studies.
- Ensure components conform to drawings and specifications through consistent dimensional checking.

Person Specification
Essential Skills & Attributes
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks, including detailed 2D drawings.
- Knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing processes.
- Understanding of production tooling and design for manufacture.
- Technically minded with strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Some engineering, manufacturing or design experience.
- Confident, proactive and self-motivated.
- Ability to work to strict deadlines.
- Good communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Knowledge of CNC equipment & CNC programming.
Desirable
- Experience of plastic moulding suppliers (rotational, injection or blow moulding)
- Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
- Knowledge of tooling and toolmaking.
- Experience of conducting time and motion studies.
- Project management experience.
Qualifications
A qualification in Mechanical or Design Engineering (e.g. HNC/HND or degree) may be beneficial.
Working Hours
Full-time, permanent position.
Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm. (Flextime available)
30-minute lunch break.
Monthly pay in arrears (by the 28th of each month).
