About AKN Build
AKN Build is a growing main contractor delivering petrol filling stations, quick service restaurants, retail and commercial developments across the UK. We work with many of the UK's leading brands on projects from £250 to £3.5 million, providing a full construction service from groundworks through to completion.
As a medium-sized contractor, every member of the team genuinely matters here, and we're growing, which is why we're looking for a Commercial Assistant to join our commercial team in Loughborough.
About the Role
You'll support our Quantity Surveyors and report to the Commercial Manager, keeping our project information accurate, organised and up to date. You'll get involved in take-offs, applications for payment, subcontractor procurement and package administration, giving you genuine exposure to how a project is run commercially from the ground up. Over time, the role is designed to develop into site-based surveying.
We're open to a range of backgrounds, including someone with a year or two of main contractor experience, or a recently qualified QS or Surveyor looking for the right platform to build a career.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Updating and maintaining commercial records and project files
- Supporting subcontractor package preparation, procurement and documentation
- Carrying out take-offs to support budgeting, tendering and valuations
- Supporting the QS team in preparing applications for payment and issuing contract notices
- Maintaining organised, audit-ready commercial filing across live projects
- Working closely with Contracts Managers and the project team to support smooth project delivery
What We're Looking For
- 1 to 2 years' experience within a main contractor environment, or a recently qualified QS or Surveyor with relevant experience
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Organised, detail-driven and confident communicating with colleagues and subcontractors
- Ambitious and ready to build a career, not just take a job
Experience with take-offs or subcontractor package preparation, an HNC/HND, a full UK Driving Licence, or familiarity with Bluebeam or Procore is desirable but not essential.
