Subcontract / Self-Employed Solar PV Electrician
Location: Watford and surrounding areas (Hertfordshire / Greater London border)
Rate: Prices to be agreed per job
Work Type: Subcontract / Ongoing Contract
Are you an experienced, self-employed electrician with a proven track record in solar PV installations?
We are a rapidly expanding renewable energy firm with a consistent, long-term pipeline of residential and commercial solar projects across Watford, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead, and the surrounding areas. We are looking for reliable, high-quality electrical subcontractors to partner with us for immediate requirements.
What We Offer
- Consistent Workload: A steady stream of local projects mapped efficiently to minimise your travel time.
- Hassle-Free Logistics: All materials are delivered directly to the site or a local drop point.
- Streamlined Pricing: Clear, transparent pricing agreed on a per-job basis before work commences.
- Flexibility: Choose the jobs that fit around your existing private clients or contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out the AC and DC electrical installation, connection, testing, and commissioning of solar PV systems.
- Install associated equipment, including inverters, battery storage units, and EV charging points where required.
Remedial & Servicing Work: Diagnose faults, conduct routine maintenance, and carry out remedial works or service calls on existing solar installations.
- Ensure all work complies with the latest IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition) and MCS standards.
- Complete necessary electrical testing paperwork, commissioning reports, and handover certificates accurately.
- Maintain a professional, clean, and customer-focused approach on-site.
Collaboration & Teamwork
You will be working closely alongside our roofing teams on site to ensure seamless, efficient installations. While your primary focus will be the electrical infrastructure, AC/DC connections, and commissioning, you will need to assist the roofing side where necessary to ensure the job is completed safely and on schedule. It is absolutely essential that you are a good team player with a positive attitude, as smooth communication and mutual support between the ground, and roof teams are critical to our success.
Requirements
- Qualifications: Fully qualified electrician (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2330/2365 or equivalent).
- Regulations: Valid 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certificate (BS 7671).
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of hands-on experience installing, fault-finding, or servicing solar PV systems. Solar-specific qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds 2399) or MCS accreditation are highly desirable.
- Testing: Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations (City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/2395) is a strong advantage.
- Setup: Must have your own calibrated testing equipment, professional tools, and reliable commercial transport.
- Compliance: Active Public Liability Insurance (minimum £2M or £5M) and a valid CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) registration.
