Twigger Business Solutions is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced accountant to join our team.
We’re a small, friendly accountancy practice based in Paignton, working mainly with local businesses and owner-managed companies.
We’re not a traditional, stuffy accountancy firm, and we don’t want to become one.
We’re looking for someone who knows their stuff, is confident managing their own workload and clients, and wants to become an important part of our team.
You might be ACA, ACCA or AAT qualified, or you might have gained your knowledge through years of working in practice. We’re much more interested in your experience and what you can actually do than the letters after your name.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll work closely with Amy, our Director who oversees the accounts and VAT side of the business, as well as the wider accounts team.
Your role will include:
- Preparing and reviewing year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
- Preparing corporation tax returns
- Preparing Self Assessment tax returns
- Reviewing bookkeeping and VAT returns
- Managing deadlines across a portfolio of clients
- Speaking directly with clients and helping with day-to-day accounts and tax queries
- Spotting anything that doesn’t look right, or where we could be helping a client more
- Supporting and reviewing work prepared by more junior members of the team
- Helping improve systems and processes where appropriate
There’s also plenty of opportunity for the role to grow.
We’re doing more management accounts, forecasting and advisory work, and we’d like the person joining us to get involved in that rather than spending every day purely preparing year-end accounts.
Who We’re Looking For
You’ll need good experience working within an accountancy practice and be comfortable dealing directly with clients.
We’d ideally like someone with:
- Strong experience preparing year-end accounts
- Good corporation tax and personal tax knowledge
- Experience with VAT and bookkeeping
- Experience managing their own workload and deadlines
- Confidence dealing directly with clients
- Good attention to detail
- A practical approach to solving problems
- The ability to explain accounts and tax without making them sound unnecessarily complicated
Experience with Xero, QuickBooks and other cloud accounting software would be useful.
Most importantly, we need someone we can rely on.
We’re a small team, so everyone helps each other when things get busy, takes responsibility and gets things done.
A Bit About Us
Twigger Business Solutions is based in Paignton and works with a wide range of businesses, from sole traders and small family businesses through to growing limited companies.
Obviously, accounts, VAT and tax returns are a big part of what we do.
But we don’t want our relationship with a client to consist of contacting them once a year to tell them what happened nine months ago.
We want our clients to be able to pick up the phone when they have a question, an idea, a problem or a decision to make.
That’s why being good with people is just as important to us as being good with numbers.
Our approach is friendly, practical and straightforward.
No unnecessary jargon. No corporate nonsense.
We’re growing, but we want to keep the feel of a small team where everyone knows our clients and people can genuinely have an input into how we do things.

This is a full-time, office-based role at our Paignton office.
We’re happy to have a sensible conversation around working hours for the right person.
