2–3 night shifts per week
The Gibside Hotel is looking for a reliable and practical Night Porter to join our team, working approximately 2–3 nights per week.
This is a hands-on role and would suit someone who is comfortable working independently overnight, looking after hotel residents and making sure the hotel is safe, secure and ready for the following day.
Main Duties
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking responsibility for the security of the hotel overnight
- Carrying out regular building and security checks
- Looking after overnight residents and assisting with reasonable requests
- Serving drinks to residents where required
- Monitoring noise and ensuring guests are not unnecessarily disturbed
- Setting up function rooms and meeting rooms ready for the following day
- Moving and arranging tables, chairs and equipment
- Cleaning and tidying public areas during quieter periods
- Cleaning bar, reception and communal areas as required
- Clearing glasses, crockery and rubbish
- Ensuring the hotel is clean, organised and presentable for the morning team
- Dealing calmly and professionally with any issues or emergencies
- Providing a clear handover at the end of the shift
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Reliable, trustworthy and responsible
- Comfortable working independently overnight
- Friendly and confident dealing with customers
- Practical and willing to get involved with cleaning and room set-ups
- Able to use their own initiative
- Calm under pressure
- Organised and able to follow instructions
- Physically able to move tables, chairs and other function equipment
- Flexible to work nights and some weekends
The Role
This is not a position where you will simply sit at reception throughout the night.
During quieter periods, you will be expected to make productive use of your time by completing cleaning, preparation and function room set-ups so the hotel is ready for the following day's business.
You will often be the main member of staff responsible for the hotel overnight, so common sense, reliability and the ability to take responsibility are essential.
