We’re JDS Gardening – a young, ambitious team based in Roslin.
Josh started this business with nothing but a lawnmower and a dream. Today, we’ve grown to over 18 field staff and work across gardening, grounds maintenance, and landscaping. We’ve got big plans for the future and we’re looking for someone who wants to learn, grow, and build a career with us.
The Role
You’ll be working as part of a small, friendly team, learning on the job from experienced Team Leaders. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be outdoors every day, helping maintain and improve gardens and sites across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
No experience is needed, we’re looking for the right attitude. If you work hard, show up on time, and want to learn, we’ll teach you the skills.
There is an initial trial period included to make sure the role is right for you. If it’s a good fit, we’ll support you through a formal apprenticeship with college-based learning alongside on-the-job training.
Day-to-day, you’ll get stuck into:
- Helping with lawn mowing, strimming, and general garden maintenance
- Assisting with planting, turfing, and basic landscaping work
- Learning how to safely use garden machinery and tools
- Loading vans and preparing equipment in the morning
- Carrying materials and helping set up sites
- Digging holes and helping prep areas for fencing or planting
- Tidying up sites at the end of the day
- Speaking politely and professionally with clients on site

Nice-to-Haves (but not essential):
A driving licence (or working towards one)
Pay & Hours
- £15,000–£21,000 per year, depending on age
- Monday to Friday, 7am–3:30pm
- Based from our HQ in Roslin, travelling across the region
- College days are at Oatridge SRUC
