ESOL Tutor

Job Purpose
The ESOL Tutor is responsible for delivering high-quality English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provision to adult learners, supporting them to develop their language, confidence, employability, and integration skills. Teaching may be delivered in a classroom, online, or through blended learning, ensuring learners achieve positive outcomes in line with awarding body and funding requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Learning
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, learner-centred ESOL lessons.
- Deliver teaching in accordance with the approved curriculum, scheme of work and lesson plans.
- Differentiate teaching to meet the individual needs of learners.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion within the learning environment.
- Create a safe, supportive and inclusive classroom that encourages learner participation and progression.
Assessment and Quality
- Carry out initial assessments, diagnostics and learner inductions.
- Monitor learner progress through regular formative and summative assessments.
- Assess, mark and provide constructive feedback on learner work.
- Prepare learners for accredited qualifications where applicable.
- Maintain accurate learner records in accordance with awarding body and funding requirements.
- Participate in Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) activities and External Quality Assurance (EQA) visits where required.
Learner Support
- Provide individual tutorials, advice and guidance to support learner progression.
- Encourage attendance, retention and achievement.
- Identify additional learning needs and refer learners to appropriate support services where necessary.
- Promote progression into further learning, volunteering or employment.
Curriculum and Programme Development
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the ESOL curriculum.
- Prepare learning materials and teaching resources.
- Support curriculum planning and review activities.
- Contribute to the development of new learning opportunities in response to community needs.
Enrolment and Recruitment
- Support learner recruitment, information, advice and guidance.
- Participate in learner enrolment, induction and initial assessment activities.
- Assist with promotional events and learner engagement activities where required.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Comply with all GLADCA Quality Assurance procedures and awarding body requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation and learner evidence.
- Ensure compliance with funding body regulations.
- Participate fully in lesson observations, quality reviews and audits.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR requirements.
Safeguarding, Health & Safety and Equality
- Safeguard the welfare of all learners and report any concerns in accordance with GLADCA's Safeguarding Policy.
- Comply with Health and Safety procedures.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of delivery.
- Maintain professional standards and act as a positive ambassador for GLADCA.
Meetings and Professional Development
The postholder will be expected to:
- Attend learner enrolment sessions.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Attend GLADCA's Annual General Meeting (AGM) (maximum two hours paid attendance).
- Attend mandatory training, quality meetings and curriculum development activities as required.
- Participate in lesson observations and quality improvement activities.
- Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through online learning and professional study.
- Attend external training events where required.
Attendance at approved meetings, enrolment activities and mandatory events will be paid in accordance with the employee's contracted hourly rate. Independent online CPD undertaken to maintain professional knowledge is expected to be completed in the employee's own time unless otherwise agreed by GLADCA.
General Responsibilities
The postholder will:

- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as reasonably requested by management.

- Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and ethical practice.

TESOL or CELTA qualifications required.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £200.00-£350.00 per week
