The role
We are seeking a patient‑focused Receptionist to be a welcoming first point of contact at our GP practice. You will provide front‑of‑house and administrative support to help the practice run smoothly and to ensure patients receive timely, accurate information and assistance.
Typical working pattern: 5 days per week totalling 30 hours Mon – Fri 08:00–14:30.
Key responsibilities
- Greet patients in person and by phone, providing a professional and courteous service at all times.
- Manage appointments, repeat prescription requests and patient queries using clinical systems (e.g., EMIS and NHS app/online services.
- Check patients in, update and maintain accurate patient records, and follow information governance policies.
- Process referrals, correspondence and results; action tasks and messages promptly.
- Handle payments and reconcile cash/card takings in line with practice procedures.
- Support clinicians with day‑to‑day administrative tasks and liaise with external providers.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding, health & safety and infection prevention policies.
About you (Essential)
- Experience in a customer‑facing or administrative role.
- Excellent communication skills with a calm, empathetic manner.
- Strong IT literacy (Microsoft 365/Outlook) and ability to learn clinical systems.
- High attention to detail, reliability and ability to prioritise in a busy environment.
- Commitment to confidentiality and data protection (UK GDPR & NHS IG standards).
Desirable
- Experience in primary care, healthcare, or another NHS setting.
- Knowledge of EMIS
- First aid training and/or previous safeguarding awareness.
