About the Role
Are you a passionate educator dedicated to supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? A specialized independent special school located on the outskirts of Carlisle, heading towards Brampton, is seeking a resilient and empathetic Nurture Teacher to lead a dedicated secondary-age Nurture Unit from September on an ongoing basis.
The campus is easily commutable from Carlisle city centre and surrounding areas. In this role, you will create a safe, predictable, and welcoming environment for small groups of students (aged 11–18), using the six principles of nurture to bridge emotional and developmental gaps.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a targeted nurture curriculum focusing heavily on SEMH development, life skills, and social interaction.
- Use assessment tools like the Boxall Profile to identify student needs and track emotional growth.
- Manage classroom behaviour through a trauma-informed lens, recognizing that all behaviour is communication.
- Foster strong, trusting relationships to prepare students for successful transitions back into wider school life.
What We Are Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
- Proven experience working with SEMH, ADHD, or autism spectrum conditions, ideally within a secondary or special school setting.
- Training in or a strong understanding of Nurture Group principles and restorative practice.
- Exceptional patience, emotional resilience, and a calm, nurturing demeanour.
