Service Engineer – Hybrid Generators Ltd (SolGen)
SolGen designs and manufactures solar hybrid power systems for off-grid sites. Our equipment combines solar PV, battery storage, inverter/charger systems and an integrated backup generator, with remote monitoring and reporting. We’re looking for a Service Engineer to support our growing hire fleet and customer base, carrying out servicing, breakdown response and commissioning support across the UK.
This role suits someone with generator/plant hire experience who is comfortable fault-finding across both electrical and mechanical systems and enjoys customer-facing work on live sites.
Key responsibilities
- Service and repair SolGen’s hybrid units on customer sites and in the yard, completing PPM, breakdown response and load/run testing with a first-time fix focus.
- Fault-find and repair generator/engine systems and carry out routine servicing to standard.
- Troubleshoot AC electrical issues & DC electrical issues
- Use telemetry/remote monitoring and on-board diagnostics to interpret alarms and trends and support efficient fault resolution.
- Complete accurate job reports, maintain van stock/tools, and feed back recurring faults to engineering/production.
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience working on diesel generators, plant equipment or similar engine-driven assets, with confident fault finding and repair ability.
- Good electrical knowledge with safe working practices (AC/DC), able to read wiring diagrams and diagnose electrical/control faults methodically.
- Full UK driving licence (maximum 3 points) and willingness to travel; organised, reliable, and confident working independently.
Desirable (training can be provided)
- 18th Edition, solar PV maintenance, lithium battery/inverter systems (Victron or similar), telemetry/4G systems, basic TCP/IP.
