Platen/Machine Operator
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Platen Operator to join a well-established and innovative print and packaging manufacturer. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a modern production environment, producing high-quality printed products and packaging solutions for a diverse range of clients.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining platen presses, ensuring products are manufactured to the highest quality standards while meeting production deadlines and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate platen presses to produce high-quality printed and packaging products.
- Carry out cutting, creasing, embossing, and debossing processes in line with job specifications.
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Read and interpret job tickets, artwork layouts, and production instructions.
- Perform routine machine checks and maintenance to minimise downtime.
- Identify and resolve minor mechanical and quality-related issues.
- Work closely with production and quality teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the production process.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience operating platen presses or similar print finishing equipment.
- Strong understanding of cutting, creasing, embossing, and debossing processes.
- Experience within a commercial print, packaging, or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to accurately interpret production specifications and technical instructions.
- Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Understanding of health and safety procedures within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new processes and techniques.
Previous experience within the print or packaging industry is highly desirable. Relevant manufacturing, print, or engineering qualifications would be advantageous.
Package
- Salary from £14.00 to 19.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
- Full-time permanent position
- 40 hours per week
- Rotating shifts:
- 6:00am – 2:00pm, Monday to Friday
- 2:00pm – 12:00am, Monday to Thursday
- On-site parking
