YOU MUST BE AN ENTHUSIASTIC GUITARIST WITH A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF GUITAR GEAR TO APPLY FOR THIS ROLE.
Stompbox is a successful independent guitar shop based in Northwood Hills, North West London. With state-of-the-art premises, market-leading brands and a busy online store, we have established ourselves as North London's leading specialist guitar retailer.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guitarist to join our team.
This is a varied role in a small, busy business, with two main areas of responsibility: face-to-face sales and customer service in the shop, and website/e-commerce administration.
A major part of your role will be helping customers in-store and over the phone. You'll need to be able to understand what a customer is looking for, offer knowledgeable advice and demonstrate guitars and equipment confidently.
You'll also be responsible for helping us maintain and develop our online business, including:
- Creating and maintaining website product listings
- Adding new products to the website
- Creating web promotions and special offers
- Assisting with social media content
- Processing online and telephone orders
- Receiving and processing deliveries
- Picking, packing and dispatching internet orders
- Maintaining the shop display and stock
- Assisting with general stock management
- Liaising with our EPOS, website and other technology providers where required
We're a small business, so everyone gets involved. Although the two main areas of the role are customer-facing sales and e-commerce, you'll be expected to get involved in other tasks required to keep the shop running smoothly.
You must play guitar to apply for this role. You don't need to be a virtuoso, but you do need to have a genuine enthusiasm for guitars and guitar equipment.
You should:
- Have a strong working knowledge of electric and acoustic guitars, basses, amplifiers and effects
- Be able to demonstrate electric, acoustic, classical and bass guitars to a good standard
- Be able to play right-handed instruments for demonstration purposes
- Have a good knowledge of the guitar and effects market
- Be genuinely enthusiastic about guitar gear and enjoy talking about it
- Be confident dealing with customers of all ages and backgrounds
If you don't play guitar or have little interest in guitar equipment, this isn't the job for you.
The successful candidate will also need to have:
- At least two years' work experience OR a university degree
- A positive, professional attitude
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Good IT skills and confidence using computers
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in getting things right
- Good organisational skills
- The ability to work independently and use initiative
- The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with busy periods or difficult situations
- A good standard of written and spoken English and numeracy
Previous retail, guitar-shop or e-commerce experience would be an advantage, but is not essential.
Experience with WooCommerce, Shopify or other e-commerce platforms would also be an advantage, although no programming experience is required and training will be provided.
Basic image editing and/or video editing skills would be a distinct advantage.
The type of person we're looking for:
This is not a job for someone who simply wants to work in a shop or in "the music industry." You'll be dealing with everyone from experienced guitarists who know exactly what they're looking for to customers who may know very little about guitars and need your help and advice.
You therefore need to be knowledgeable, approachable, patient and confident, and able to adapt the way you communicate to different customers.
The role also offers the opportunity to develop experience across specialist retail, sales, customer service, e-commerce, website administration, stock management and online sales.
If you're passionate about guitars and would enjoy spending your working day surrounded by them, we'd like to hear from you.
