Overview
We’re looking for a warm, reliable and food-loving Cook to join our friendly team at Bings Hall Residential Care Home. In this role, you’ll prepare fresh, nutritious and homely meals that support the health, dignity and enjoyment of our residents every day.
If you take pride in cooking from scratch, care about good nutrition for older people, and enjoy being part of a close-knit team, we’d love to hear from you.
Duties
- Prepare and cook a varied menu of hot and cold meals, snacks and light refreshments for residents, using fresh ingredients and following agreed menus.
- Adapt meals to meet individual dietary needs and preferences, including diabetic, low-salt, texture-modified, religious and cultural diets.
- Work closely with the Home Manager, care staff and, where appropriate, residents and families to ensure person-centred meal planning.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness in line with Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations.
- Help with food ordering, stock rotation, portion control and minimising waste.
- Keep accurate records (e.g. temperature checks, cleaning schedules) and follow all home policies and procedures.
- Support a positive, welcoming dining experience, encouraging residents to enjoy their meals in a calm, social environment.
Requirements
You don’t need to be a Michelin-star chef – we’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience cooking for groups, ideally in a care home, hospital, school or similar setting.
- Is confident cooking from scratch and can follow recipes while adding your own touch.
- Understands the importance of nutrition and hydration for older people and those living with dementia.
- Has a friendly, patient manner and enjoys interacting with residents and colleagues.
- Is reliable, organised and able to work calmly in a busy kitchen.
- Holds (or is willing to work towards) a Food Hygiene Certificate; NVQ in Catering or similar is an advantage but not essential.
- An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
