Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Laboratory Manager to lead and oversee all operations within our Microbiology laboratory. This pivotal role involves managing daily laboratory activities, to provide an adequate and reliable microbiology analysis as part of quality control procedures for all products produced on site. Ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and fostering a collaborative team atmosphere. The Laboratory Manager will coordinate testing procedures, maintain equipment, and implement best practices to support scientific research, product development, or quality assurance initiatives. Responsibilities
- Ensure all OSI documented methods and procedures are implemented, kept up to date, accurate and followed by relevant personnel for customer audits and accreditation bodies. Compile new procedures, methods where applicable for new products and shelf life evaluation.
- Train all new laboratory personnel and continue the development of the existing staff to ensure each work area and task is fully understood.
- Risk assessment for the Laboratory, reporting any potential issues to the Health and Safety Representative, ensuring the laboratory is run in accordance with all aspects of Health and Safety requirements and legislation.
- Liaise with managers, supervisors and members of other departments to maintain clear channels of communication between the laboratory to run in accordance with all aspects of Health and Safety requirements and legislation.
- Effective day to day running of the laboratory ensuring stock levels and calibration status is maintained.
- Adhere to all organisational policies and procedures including Food Safety and Health and Safety legislation requirements. As an employee, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires you to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other people at work.
Experience
- Proven experience in laboratory management or a similar leadership role within scientific or technical environments.
- Strong communication skills in English for clear reporting and team coordination.
- Demonstrated proficiency in IT systems related to laboratory operations, data management, or instrumentation control.
- Background in teaching or training others on technical procedures or safety protocols is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, quality assurance standards, and regulatory compliance requirements relevant to laboratory settings.
