PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To support the Registered Manager in all aspects of service operation, quality assurance and team leadership. To deputise in the Manager’s absence, ensuring continuity of safe, compliant and person-centred care. To oversee day-to-day delivery, monitor standards, support staff and ensure policies and procedures are consistently followed.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Support & Deputising
- Support the Registered Manager in all duties; act as Manager in their absence
- Oversee daily service operation, ensuring all activities run smoothly and safely
- Monitor shift handovers, staffing levels and service delivery
- Ensure all legal and regulatory requirements are met on a daily basis
- Assist with inspections, audits and quality reviews
Quality & Care Delivery
- Monitor care practice, observe staff and provide constructive feedback
- Support development and review of care plans, risk assessments and support documentation
- Ensure records are accurate, timely and complete
- Promote person-centred approaches, dignity and independence
- Assist with complaints, concerns and compliments
Team Support & Development
- Assist with recruitment, induction and training of new staff
- Deliver or organise training and competency checks
- Support supervision, appraisal and performance management
- Help maintain team morale, communication and safe working practices
- Report promptly any concerns regarding conduct, capability or attendance
Safeguarding, Health & Safety
- Ensure all staff understand and follow safeguarding procedures
- Identify and report concerns immediately; support investigations
- Monitor health & safety, risk assessments, fire safety and environment
- Oversee medication management and record keeping
- Ensure security, keys and access procedures are followed
Administration & Compliance
- Assist with rotas, payroll, records and reporting
- Ensure policies and procedures are accessible and understood
- Maintain filing systems, logs and regulatory records
- Support audits and action plan implementation
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Experience in care leadership or senior support role (minimum 1–2 years)
- Knowledge of safeguarding, health & safety and care standards
- Good understanding of CQC requirements
- Ability to lead, support and motivate a team
- Good communication and record keeping skills
- Enhanced DBS check required
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Diploma in Health & Social Care Level 4 or 5
- Previous Deputy Manager or Team Leader experience
- Experience of medication administration or training
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Shift pattern including weekends and evenings
- Occasional on-call or out-of-hours support
- Subject to Disclosure and Barring Service check and reference checks
Pay: £16.50-£18.50 per hour
