Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Nursery Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for children in a nursery setting, ensuring high standards of food safety and hygiene. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a background in culinary arts, food preparation, or restaurant experience to contribute to a caring environment that prioritises children's wellbeing and development.
Duties
- Prepare and cook healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks in accordance with dietary requirements and nutritional guidelines
- Plan menus that cater to the diverse needs of children, including special dietary restrictions
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, adhering strictly to food safety standards
- Ensure all food is stored correctly and check for freshness and quality before preparation
- Assist with meal service, serving food in a friendly and professional manner
- Monitor kitchen equipment and report any maintenance or safety issues promptly
- Follow all health and safety regulations to create a safe environment for children and staff
Requirements
- Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles, preferably within a childcare or similar setting
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Experience working in a kitchen environment, including meal preparation and serving
- Ability to organise tasks efficiently and work under pressure during busy meal times
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Basic understanding of nutritional requirements for young children
- Relevant qualifications in catering or food safety are desirable but not essential
