We are looking for a diligent and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our busy Accounts team in Milton Keynes.
This is a key role within the finance department, responsible for processing high volumes of daily payments to customers, suppliers, vehicle vendors, and other business partners. The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, a methodical approach to checking documentation, and the confidence to challenge or reject payment requests that do not meet company procedures or lack the required supporting evidence.
Working in a fast-paced motor retail environment, you will be responsible for ensuring all payments are processed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with internal controls. You will need strong organisational skills, the ability to prioritise workloads, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy.
In addition to payment processing, the role will involve some daily bank reconciliations, receipting and allocation of payments, and providing support with adhoc credit control and sales ledger tasks as required.
Previous motor trade experience and/or knowledge of Pinnacle DMS would be advantageous, although full training will be provided for the right candidate and is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Process daily payments to customers, suppliers, vehicle vendors, and other third parties.
- Review and verify supporting documentation to ensure all payment requests are accurate, complete, and properly authorised.
- Identify discrepancies or missing information and follow up with relevant departments before releasing payments.
- Confidently challenge and reject payment requests that do not comply with company procedures.
- Load and process daily bank payments through the banking system.
- Post all payments accurately onto the accounting system (Pinnacle DMS).
- Perform bank reconciliations and investigate unreconciled items.
- Receipt and allocate payments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist with credit control activities, including chasing outstanding balances and resolving account queries.
- Support sales ledger processes and ensure customer accounts are maintained accurately.
- Liaise with internal departments to resolve payment and account queries through to completion.
- Assist with other accounting and administrative tasks as required.
Skills & Experience
- Previous accounts or finance administration experience.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Confident reviewing paperwork and identifying errors or inconsistencies.
- Ability to follow processes and maintain strong financial controls.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Experience with payment processing.
- Knowledge of Accounts Receivable, sales ledger, and credit control processes.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Experience using accounting software and automated banking systems.
- Ability to investigate and resolve queries effectively.
- Motor trade experience would be advantageous.
- Experience with Pinnacle DMS would be beneficial but is not essential.
