Job Title: Venue Night Porter
Location: Glenbervie House and Country Estate
Reports To: Duty Manager / Duty Supervisor
Job Overview
The Night Porter is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, cleanliness, and smooth overnight operation of the hotel. This role involves regular patrols, maintaining public areas, supporting event breakdown and setup, and ensuring all guests and staff are safe and accounted for throughout the night.
Key Responsibilities
Start of Shift Duties
- Conduct a full walk-through of the building to ensure safety of guests and premises
- Record any issues or observations in the fire register (located at reception office)
- Ensure all fire doors are closed, unobstructed, and compliant with safety standards
- Liaise with the Duty Manager/Supervisor to receive handover and discuss any concerns
Security & Monitoring
- Perform hourly security checks of the entire building
- Monitor guest activity and ensure all non-residents leave the premises safely
- Confirm all guests have returned to their rooms safely
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of reception and public areas
- Regularly check and tidy all toilet facilities (hourly)
- Clear dirty glassware from bar and drawing room areas throughout the shift
- Clean drawing rooms (tables, chairs, fireplaces, floors)
- Hoover reception, hallways, and staircase where required
- Ensure all glass doors and windows are cleaned before 8:00 AM
- Keep outdoor areas (front steps, terrace, patio) clean and free of litter and cigarette waste
- Wash down front steps with hot water before 8:00 AM
- Arrange patio furniture neatly
Event & Operational Support
- Ensure all candles are extinguished after events
- Secure premises by locking doors once events conclude and guests depart
- Dismantle dancefloor and clean function suites (e.g., Glenbervie Suite)
- Reset function rooms according to event requirements
- Assist with preparation for breakfast service, including checking guest numbers
- Retrieve and prepare linen (tablecloths, napkins) as required
Bar & Stock Duties
- Ensure bar areas are cleaned, restocked, and left in a high standard
- Support cleaning and reset of pop-up bar areas
- Lock cellar and return key to designated secure location
Staff & Security Duties
- Ensure staff room is locked and secured once all staff have left
- Lock all relevant access points and ensure lights are turned off where appropriate
Key Skills & Requirements
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
- Ability to work independently and manage overnight responsibilities
- Good communication skills for effective handovers
- Awareness of health & safety and fire regulations
- Physically capable of manual tasks (cleaning, moving furniture, setup)
- Reliable, responsible, and trustworthy
Working Hours
- Night shifts, including weekends and holidays as required
Job Type: Part-time
