Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Deputy DSL)
About the Role
We are seeking a committed Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Deputy DSL) to support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection across our weekend Madrassah.
The Deputy DSL will assist in managing safeguarding concerns, supporting staff, maintaining records and promoting a safe environment for all children. The postholder will deputise for the DSL when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the DSL in all safeguarding and child protection matters.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns and maintain confidential records.
- Deputise for the DSL in their absence.
- Support referrals to external agencies where required.
- Assist with safeguarding training, policy reviews and staff guidance.
- Help monitor safeguarding compliance and safer recruitment.
- Promote a culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
Person Specification - Essential
- Experience working with children in an educational, community or faith setting.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Deputy DSL training (or willingness to complete accredited training).
- Strong communication, organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement.
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
- Right to work in the UK
- Previous safeguarding or Deputy DSL experience.
Desirable
- Experience within a mosque or madrassah.
- Experience delivering safeguarding training.
- Knowledge of Charity Commission safeguarding guidance.
