Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Garden Maintenance Assistant to support the upkeep and enhancement of outdoor green spaces. We are Charles Dudley Gardens, check out our website and instagram page. We are a well- respected garden maintenance company that operates across high-end properties throughout London and Brighton. This role involves working alongside an experienced horticulturist to maintain gardens and planted areas inside and out in prestigious restaurants and domestic gardens in Brighton. This role is 1 day a week, usually on a Wednesday. The ideal candidate will have a passion for gardening and a keen interest in garden maintenance, with opportunities to develop skills in horticulture and irrigation systems. This paid position offers valuable hands-on experience in garden care and landscape management.
Duties
- Assist with planting, pruning, weeding, and general garden tidying using hand tools and gardening equipment
- Operate power tools such as hedge trimmers, lawnmowers, and leaf blowers to maintain outdoor spaces
- Support irrigation system installation, inspection, and repairs to ensure proper watering of plants
- Help with soil preparation, fertilisation, and mulching to promote healthy plant growth
- Maintain the organisation and cleanliness of tools and work areas
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of landscape features such as pathways, flower beds, and decorative elements
- Monitor plant health and report any issues related to pests or disease for further action
- Follow safety procedures when handling equipment and chemicals
Experience
- Previous experience in gardening, horticulture, or landscape maintenance is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided for those eager to learn
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and irrigation systems is desirable
- Growing experience or knowledge of plant care and garden design is a plus
- A genuine interest in gardening, landscape aesthetics, and environmental sustainability is highly valued
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions with physical stamina for manual tasks
