Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is investing in the future of Older People’s Services and we are looking for an ambitious and progressive Specialist Doctor to join our growing Eldercare and Stroke team. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of frailty, orthogeriatric medicine, Parkinson’s disease and complex geriatric care within a highly respected and supportive multidisciplinary team.
Working across innovative acute and community pathways, you will help deliver specialist care for some of Cornwall’s most vulnerable patients while contributing to service transformation, quality improvement and the development of new approaches to integrated older people’s care.
This is more than a traditional Specialist Doctor post. It offers the opportunity to:
Play a pivotal role in Cornwall’s evolving frailty pathway, ensuring patients receive timely specialist assessment and personalised care.
Work alongside nationally trained specialists in frailty, stroke, orthogeriatrics, movement disorders and rehabilitation.
Help shape the expansion of orthogeriatric services and innovative models of care for patients with fragility fractures and complex needs.
Contribute to countywide Parkinson’s and movement disorder services, working within established multidisciplinary networks.
Drive quality improvement, patient safety and service innovation projects that make a genuine difference to patient outcomes.
Develop your own clinical interests while being supported by an experienced and forward-thinking consultant team.
What You’ll Be Part Of
You will join a service that spans acute hospitals, rehabilitation units, community settings and specialist clinics, delivering truly integrated care across Cornwall. From rapid frailty assessment in the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Unit, to specialist stroke, Parkinson’s, rehabilitation and orthogeriatric services, our teams work seamlessly across organisational boundaries to provide high-quality, patient-centred care closer to home.
Patients requiring specialist care are prioritised for transfer to dedicated base wards, ensuring access to the most appropriate specialist multidisciplinary support. Where operational pressures and capacity challenges necessitate care on alternative wards, patients under the Eldercare service remain under the oversight of the Attending Physician, ensuring continuity, clinical accountability and timely decision-making until discharge or transfer to the appropriate specialty base ward.
You will work alongside a highly skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team of Consultant Geriatricians, specialist nurses, therapists, pharmacists, community partners and trainee doctors in an environment that champions collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. Together, we are transforming services to meet the needs of an ageing population, embracing new models of care, and delivering outstanding outcomes for patients across Cornwall.
