Job Overview
We are looking for a reliable, practical, and proactive Maintenance Handyperson to join our hotel team on a part-time basis (20 hours per week).
The successful candidate will be responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the hotel, helping to ensure our bedrooms, public areas, and facilities remain safe, functional, and well-presented for our guests. This is a varied, hands-on role that requires good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting the wider hotel team.
Duties
- Carry out general repairs and maintenance throughout the hotel, including guest bedrooms, bathrooms, corridors, reception, and public areas.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from hotel staff and management.
- Complete routine inspections to identify and resolve maintenance issues before they become larger problems.
- Perform basic plumbing repairs, including fixing leaks, replacing taps, unblocking sinks, and changing toilet components.
- Carry out basic electrical maintenance, such as replacing light fittings, bulbs, sockets, and switches (within competency and regulations).
- Undertake decorating and repair work, including painting, filling, plaster patch repairs, and minor carpentry.
- Assemble, repair, and maintain furniture, fixtures, doors, locks, windows, and fittings.
- Carry out routine checks on heating, hot water, ventilation, and other hotel systems, reporting any faults requiring specialist attention.
- Maintain the hotel's exterior areas, including pathways, car park, signage, and outdoor furniture, ensuring they remain safe and tidy.
- Liaise with external contractors when specialist repairs or servicing are required.
- Keep maintenance records up to date and ensure tools, equipment, and storage areas are clean and organised.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a general maintenance, handyman, facilities, or property maintenance role.
- Good practical skills across basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and general building repairs.
- Basic electrical knowledge is desirable.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
- A proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Friendly, professional, and approachable manner when interacting with guests and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- A flexible attitude and willingness to assist with a variety of maintenance tasks.
- Awareness of health and safety requirements within a commercial environment.
Desirable
- Previous experience working in a hotel, hospitality, or accommodation setting.
- Knowledge of fire safety procedures and building compliance.
- Relevant maintenance or trade qualifications.
