Job Title: Club Steward / Stewardess
Location: West Wiltshire Conservative Club, Lovemead House, Trowbridge, BA14 8DG
Reports To: The Club Management Committee / Club Secretary
Position Type: Full-time (requires evening, weekend, and bank holiday hours)
Job Purpose
To oversee the day-to-day operations, hospitality services, and facilities of the West Wiltshire Conservative Club. The Steward/Stewardess acts as the face of the club, ensuring a warm, welcoming environment for members and guests while maintaining high standards of cellar management, food and beverage service, financial accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities1. Bar & Cellar Management
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the bar, ensuring high-quality beverage service.
- Maintain the cellar to excellent standards, including line cleaning, temperature control, and gas safety management.
- Liaise with breweries and suppliers, oversee deliveries, and manage optimum stock levels.
- Conduct regular stock takes and manage stock rotation to minimise wastage.
2. Financial Controls & Administration
- Operate and reconcile the EPOS (electronic point of sale) till system daily.
- Handle cash accurately, prepare banking, and keep detailed, organized records of income and expenses.
- Assist the Committee in checking invoices and ensuring profitable margins on food and drink sales.
3. Staff Leadership & Support
- Supervise, rota, and motivate part-time bar or kitchen staff (if applicable).
- Ensure all staff deliver exceptional customer service and follow club policies.
4. Club Environment & Events
- Maintain a clean, welcoming, and tidy atmosphere in the lounge, bar, and function areas.
- Collaborate with the Management Committee to plan, promote, and execute social events, entertainment nights, and seasonal activities.
- Enforce club rules, constitution guidelines, and licensing laws firmly but politely.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience: Proven background in pub, social club, or hospitality management (cellar management experience is essential).
- Hygiene & Safety: Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Friendly, approachable, and diplomatic demeanour. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with a diverse club membership and the Management Committee.
- Organization: Basic computer literacy (for emails and EPOS tracking) and solid financial tracking abilities.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Hours: Flexible working hours determined by club opening times, heavily involving weekends and late evenings.
- Physical: The role involves moderate physical effort, including standing for long periods and handling stock (such as changing beer barrels and moving crates).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
