We are looking for an experienced and driven General Manager to lead the team at The Malt at Landywood, a busy, food-led pub and restaurant.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands what it takes to run a successful hospitality business, delivering great guest experiences while maintaining strong standards, developing a high-performing team and taking ownership of the commercial performance of the venue.
We’re looking for more than someone who can run a busy service.
The right person will be organised, commercially aware and confident leading a management team. You’ll be able to manage multiple priorities, make decisions independently and take genuine ownership of the day-to-day operation.
The Role
As General Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the performance and operation of The Malt, working closely with the Operations Manager and leading an established management and front-of-house team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the day-to-day operation of the pub and restaurant
- Managing, developing and holding the management team accountable
- Maintaining consistently high standards of food, drink, service and hospitality
- Taking ownership of rotas, staffing levels and labour costs
- Recruitment, onboarding, training and development
- Managing employee performance, appraisals and progression
- Understanding and working with key financial measures including labour, GP, spend per head and P&L performance
- Controlling stock, wastage and operational costs
- Ensuring excellent health & safety, licensing and compliance standards
- Managing maintenance and ensuring the venue is always presented to a high standard
- Building a strong culture where people enjoy coming to work while maintaining clear expectations and accountability
- Working with the Operations Manager on the continued development of the business
Who We're Looking For:
We're particularly interested in candidates with experience as a General Manager within a busy pub, restaurant or food-led hospitality operation.
You should be:
- An experienced hospitality leader with strong operational knowledge
- Highly organised and comfortable managing multiple priorities
- A confident people manager who can develop and motivate a team
- Commercially aware and comfortable working with numbers
- Confident managing labour, rotas and operational costs
- Able to make decisions and solve problems independently
- Passionate about food, drink and delivering excellent hospitality
- Comfortable setting standards and holding people accountable
- Calm and effective during high-volume services
- Someone who takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what needs doing
Experience within a quality food-led pub or restaurant environment would be particularly valuable.
We're looking for someone who wants to help run a business, develop a team and continuously improve performance.
If you're an experienced pub or restaurant General Manager looking for your next challenge, we'd love to hear from you.
