EXPERIENCED GENERAL PRACTICE NURSE/ NEW TO GENERAL PRACTICE NURSE
We are seeking either an experienced general practice nurse or a new to general practice nurse to join our rural training and dispensing Practice based over 2 sites, Kintbury & Woolton Hill with a friendly and comfortable working environment. You will be well supported by our existing nursing team, consisting of two nurses, a nurse associate and a HCA. You should be comfortable with responsibility, energetic, keen to learn new skills and work as an integral part of the team as well as happy to work autonomously. Flexibility to provide cover for annual leave, late evenings and Saturdays is required.
Hours of work: Minimum of 25 hours , but negotiable for the right candidate.
Salary: New to general practice starting at £17.69 p/h and experienced general practice nurse starting at £21.57 p/h
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To provide assessment, screening treatment services and health education advice.
- Provide nursing services for the practice. Be responsible for maintaining standards of care and for the continuing nursing care of patients registered with the practice.
- Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners and to agreed protocols. Have knowledge of and familiarity with the management of chronic diseases
- Provide general and specific health screenings to practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.
- Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments, with referral to general practitioners as necessary. Undertake health education and counselling of patients as required.
2. Nursing activities, depending on experience and qualification, will include:
- The collection of pathological specimens, to include intravenous blood samples, swabs, cervical smears and the testing of urine samples (according to agreed protocols)
- Information gathering for care planning
- Electrocardiography, spirometry
- Doppler assessments
- Travel advice
- Immunisation and vaccination services for both adults and children
- Administration of other injectable prescribed drugs
- Advice on Contraception, HRT, menopause
- Ear examination and syringing
- Wound care, dressing techniques, removal of sutures, wound swabs
- First Aid and management of emergencies, eg burns, haemorrhage
- Nursing management of; shock, cardiac arrest, common skin conditions, minor childhood illnesses, upper respiratory tract infections
- Chronic disease management.
- Run clinics to meet practice objectives for specified client groups.
3. Treatment Room supplies and equipment
In participation with the practice nurse:
- Ensure appropriate cleaning, decontamination and maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care
- assist with stock audit, rotation and ordering
4. Infection Control
In participation with the Senior practice nurse:
- assume responsibility for infection control and decontamination policies operated by the practice
- assist with infection control audit and compliance actions
- assist with staff induction and on-going infection control training
5. Administrative and professional responsibilities:
Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice Team:
- Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded on the patients clinical record
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care
- Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports
- Attend and participate in all practice meetings as required. Liaise with other primary care team members
- Participate in the notes management process
6. Research projects and Audit
- Co-operate and participate as required in any research and audit projects within the practice.
7. Education and training of students and practice staff
- Participate in the education and training of students, new nurse team colleagues and registrars and the induction of all members of practice staff.
8. Liaison
- Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality.
9. Professional development
- Maintain continued education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development and approved by the Practice.
- Undertake revalidation with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
Areas of specialist interest and experience welcome such as coil fitting/ diabetes/ asthma
