Overview
A specialist SEND provision in Boston is seeking a passionate Communication Support Assistant to join their team from September. The provision supports pupils with a range of communication and interaction needs, including autism spectrum condition, speech and language difficulties, developmental delays and complex communication profiles.
The school recognises communication as the foundation for learning, relationships and independence and provides highly personalised support to help pupils develop effective ways of expressing themselves and understanding others.
This full-time position offers the opportunity to secure a permanent role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted support for pupils with speech, language and communication needs both inside and outside the classroom.
- Implement communication strategies, programmes and interventions developed by Speech and Language Therapists.
- Utilise visual communication systems, PECS, Makaton, communication boards, symbols and assistive technology where appropriate.
- Support pupils in understanding verbal instructions, processing information and expressing their needs.
- Encourage the development of social communication, conversational skills and positive peer interactions.
- Facilitate communication opportunities during classroom learning, play, social activities and daily routines.
- Monitor progress against individual communication targets and maintain detailed records.
- Support staff in adapting resources and lesson delivery to maximise communication accessibility.
- Work collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure consistency of communication support.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with communication and interaction needs.
- Understanding of autism, speech and language difficulties and communication development.
- Knowledge of communication frameworks such as PECS, Makaton or visual communication systems desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patient, encouraging and adaptable approach.
- Relevant qualifications in SEND, Childcare, Education or Therapy Support desirable.
Pay: £95.00-£105.00 per day
