The Role
We are looking for a Refrigeration and HVAC Operative to support IRS’ contracted clients across the Midlands. You’ll work closely with our Service Director, PPM Supervisor and Co-Ordinator's to deliver high-quality planned maintenance for a wide range of commercial customers.
You do NOT need previous air-conditioning or refrigeration experience.
If you have hands-on skills, enjoy practical work, and have experience in any mechanical, electrical, facilities, maintenance, engineering, building services, or similar roles, we’d love to hear from you. Full training and support will be provided.
We’re looking for people who are reliable, motivated and willing to learn. If you have a mechanical mindset or have worked in roles involving tools, repairs, inspections, or basic maintenance, you may be an excellent fit.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
You’ll be trained to carry out tasks such as:
- Routine planned maintenance checks on air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation systems.
- Replacing or cleaning air filters.
- Changing drive belts.
- Supporting service engineers on site as a second person.
- General hands-on maintenance tasks.
What We’re Looking For (Transferable Skills Welcome!)
- Someone who can work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a professional approach with customers.
- A positive, proactive, “can-do” attitude.
- Flexibility for occasional overtime.
- Practical ability and confidence using tools.
- Willingness to learn new technical skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Basic understanding of health, safety and safe working practices.
- DBS check (paid for by IRS)
- Any mechanical or electrical experience.
Nice-to-have (not essential):
- Experience in facilities, building services, general maintenance, plumbing, electrical support, or similar hands-on roles.
- F-Gas Cat 4 (training can be provided).
- Experience working in NHS or healthcare environments
- HTM 03-01 (Healthcare Ventilation) trained

Package
- OTE £35k+
- Basic salary based on suitability and experience.
- 39-hour standard work week (on-site).
