Job Summary
Originally established in Scotland, our company has grown a solid foundation there before expanding into the London market. Leveraging the integrated Design & Build delivery model, we offer clients streamlined and efficient solutions - an approach particularly well-suited to navigating the rigorous drawing-review and regulatory requirements of central London, enabling smoother project delivery within a more demanding approval environment.
We are seeking a skilled Architectural Technician with strong DWG/CAD experience to support the technical development of design proposals, production of detailed drawings, and coordination of project information across all RIBA stages. The technician will work closely with architects, designers, consultants, and contractors to ensure high-quality technical output and compliance with UK planning and building regulations.
Responsibilities
· Produce accurate and detailed 2D CAD (DWG) drawings, technical plans, elevations, sections, and construction details for residential, commercial, and listed-building projects.
· Prepare technical documentation for planning applications, listed-building consent submissions, building control packages, and tender/construction drawings.
· Assist with survey information, including interpreting measured surveys, point-cloud data, and as-existing building information.
· Support the development of design proposals in line with RIBA work stages and project requirements.
· Coordinate technical information with consultants, including structural engineers, M&E engineers, heritage consultants, and other specialists.
· Ensure all drawings comply with relevant UK Building Regulations, planning policies, and industry standards.
· Maintain an organised drawing system, applying company CAD standards, layers, naming conventions, and version control.
· Assist with the preparation of specifications, schedules, and technical reports.
· Carry out technical research into materials, construction methods, heritage-conservation requirements, and sustainable design solutions.
· Occasionally attend site visits to support inspections, gather measurements, and assist with resolving technical queries.
Skills
Essential:
· Proven experience as an Architectural Technician, CAD Technician, or similar role within an architectural practice.
· Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (DWG) for detailed 2D drafting.
· Good understanding of UK planning policy, listed-building regulations, and Building Regulations (Approved Documents).
· Ability to produce clear, accurate, and technically robust drawings.
· Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work collaboratively within a small team and manage workload across multiple projects.
Desirable:
· Experience working on listed or heritage buildings.
· Familiarity with Revit, Blender, or other BIM/3D modelling software.
· Knowledge of UK construction methods, materials, and site practices.
· Understanding of sustainability principles and modern methods of construction.
