Job Description:
You will be involved in the converting a list of points into a CAD design for a control panel. These designs will then be assembled in our in-house workshop to allow the BMS system to control the built environment. Your role will also encompass the CAD, ordering, deliveries and project management of these systems. There will be the potential to move on to become a Commissioning Engineer or a Project Manager.
Our apprenticeship program will support you in gaining experience across all of our business areas by providing you with the opportunity to work on many exciting projects across the UK.
We offer a Level 4 Apprenticeship in BEMS Systems, approved by the Building Controls Industry Association or a L3/L4 Engineering Design Apprenticeship.
We will support you with a tailored program allowing you to progress within the company and to support the development of your potential. We will support this with the required training and mentoring by professional engineers who will help to teach you the art of becoming a Building Management Systems / Design Engineer.
Initially you will work alongside various Engineers helping to design the control panels and produce bespoke graphics for interactive user displays.
You will be learning to work with clients and project managers on a portfolio of projects using industry-leading systems to provide innovative and cost-effective CAD and user graphics for the various Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems within the building environment.
You will also take part in various internal and external technical training courses, which will lead you to becoming a technical expert in your field.

Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Keen to learn and progress within the company.
a) As part of your apprenticeship, you will be spending part of your time learning new skills, technologies & BMS systems. You will need to learn to apply these skills within your role.
b) Part of your training will be on external courses with various suppliers across the country.
c) Part of your development may be working with our existing Commissioning Engineers and Project Managers on projects across the country.
d) You will be given a good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and company Policies & Procedures, and you will be expected to work safely within these guidelines.
e) You will need to keep up to date with technological and environmental developments within our industry.
2. Knowledge of CAD and Design software would be ideal, but not necessary.
a) A good technical knowledge of Computers/computer systems and how to use them will be required, including the MS office suite.
b) A working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar would be ideal, however training will be given.
c) A knowledge of computer art and design software would be useful, but not necessary.
3. Knowledge of Controls/PLCs would be ideal, but not necessary.
a) A good technical knowledge of PLC systems or BMS controls would be a great advantage, but not necessary. A desire to use computers and networks is required.
b) A knowledge of PLC / Ladder Logic programming would be useful, but not necessary.
c) A knowledge of electrical circuits would be helpful, but not necessary.
4. Electrical knowledge (installation/electrician) would be ideal, but not necessary.
a) A good technical knowledge of Electrical Installations would be a great advantage, but not necessary.
b) An understanding of electrical wiring diagrams & circuits would be useful, but not necessary – Training will be given; this will be a key part of your role moving forward.
5. Ability to work both alone and as part of a team.
a) Must be able to learn and work under own initiative.
b) Must be able to manage designated workloads.
c) Ability to communicate effectively with other employees within the company.
d) General management skills including the ability to act with integrity, arrange personnel workloads, use sound judgement, drive for results and focus on customer needs.
6. Ability to work directly with customers
a) You will need to be confident in meeting with consultants and end clients alike, possibly working directly with them to ensure that a project is delivered to their satisfaction, within our budgets.
b) You will need to be confident meeting and talking to suppliers, often to discuss the more technical aspects of a project to ensure that the best possible systems and techniques are being used.
7. Time management and budgeting
a) You will need to efficiently and accurately complete CAD drawings / graphics within the allocated timescales.
b) You will need to ensure that time sheets are accurately recorded and presented to accounts on time.
c) You will liaise with the Project Managers to ensure that all works are completed as planned, and any over-runs or changes to the specifications are reported back.
8. Progression to CAD Engineer
Once you have completed your initial training, you will progress to the position of CAD Design Engineer, where you will be expected to work both alone and as part of teams. As a CAD Engineer, you will:
a) Convert points lists into CAD designs.
b) Liaise with clients and PM's to ensure systems are designed on time.
c) Plan, order and receive components to ensure timely receipt of parts ready for panel builds.
d) Report progress and/or delays to office promptly to ensure the client can be informed of any problems.
