Foundations & Buildings Ltd is an established and expanding construction and civil engineering company specialising in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of structural steelwork, civil engineering and groundworks for commercial, industrial, agricultural, residential and equestrian projects. With our own fabrication workshop, paint facilities, laser cutting capabilities and experienced site teams, we deliver complete projects from concept through to completion.
As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of our fleet, workshop, warehouse and yard operations. This is a hands-on leadership role that will ensure our operational activities run safely, efficiently and cost-effectively while supporting the successful delivery of projects across the business.
The Role
Reporting to the Directors, you will take ownership of the company's operational infrastructure, ensuring our vehicles, plant, workshop, yard and warehouse are organised, compliant and ready to support multiple live construction projects.
You will work closely with our engineering, fabrication and site teams to coordinate resources, improve efficiencies and maintain the high standards our clients expect.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Logistics
o Oversee fleet planning, scheduling and vehicle availability.
o Manage vehicle servicing, maintenance and repairs.
o Ensure lorry inspections, plant LOLER examinations and associated compliance checks are completed on time.
o Coordinate fitter bookings, MOT tests and workshop schedules.
o Monitor fleet utilisation and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
Warehouse & Stock Management
o Maintain stock levels of manufacturing materials, tools, PPE and consumables.
o Carry out regular stock checks and manage replenishment orders.
o Ensure the warehouse is organised, efficient and operating safely.
o Introduce systems to improve stock accuracy and inventory control.
Workshop & Technical Support
o Oversee daily workshop operations.
o Support mechanics, fabricators and technicians.
o Review fabrication drawings and completed fabrications for accuracy and quality.
o Liaise with engineering and design teams to ensure smooth production workflows.
Yard & Site Operations
o Ensure the yard remains tidy, organised and compliant with Health & Safety standards.
o Supervise loading and unloading of vehicles and movement of materials.
o Coordinate project preparation, deliveries and logistics to support site teams.
Procurement & Cost Control
o Obtain competitive quotations for materials, plant, specialist services and supplies.
o Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
o Support budgeting and identify opportunities to reduce operational costs without compromising quality.
General Operations
o Drive continuous improvement across all operational functions.
o Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company procedures and quality standards.
o Lead, motivate and support operational staff.
o Develop efficient processes that improve productivity and project delivery.
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, improving systems and keeping operations running smoothly.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience in an Operations Manager or similar management role.
- Experience within construction, civil engineering, manufacturing or engineering environments.
- Strong knowledge of fleet management, logistics and workshop operations.
- Understanding of LOLER regulations, vehicle compliance and Health & Safety requirements.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing suppliers and controlling costs.
- A proactive approach with the confidence to make decisions and drive improvements.
