Job Summary
Prepare, process, package & pick fresh meat products safely and efficiently in full compliance with company policies, food safety regulations, and quality standards. Support daily butchery operations by handling raw meat, operating equipment, maintaining a clean and hygienic workspace, and meeting production targets while ensuring product quality, traceability, and customer satisfaction.
Role Responsibilities:
- People: To support the underlying principle of Creating a Great Place to Work.
- Meat Preparation & Processing: Ensuring correct portion control and weight accuracy. Operating mechanical equipment including, mincers, tenderisers, and vacuum packing machines.
- Quality Control: Inspecting raw materials for quality, freshness, and compliance with specifications. Identifying and segregating non-conforming products. Ensuring finished products meet appearance, weight, and packaging standards. Reporting quality concerns immediately to supervisors. Supporting traceability procedures (batch codes, labelling accuracy).
- Food Safety & Hygiene: Complying with HACCP principles and food safety management systems. Following cleaning schedules for equipment and workstations. Maintaining personal hygiene standards in line with food production regulations. Preventing cross-contamination between product types. Ensuring correct temperature control in chilled environments
- Health & Safety: Adhering to company Health & Safety policies at all times. Reporting accidents, incidents, or near misses. Maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free workspace. Following manual handling guidelines when lifting or moving stock.
- Production & Performance: Working to daily production targets and KPIs. Minimising waste and maximising yield.
Competencies and Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Good understanding of hygiene and food safety principles.
- Team player with good communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible approach to work.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Qualifications and Experience (Essential):
- GCSE in Maths and English
- Ability to work in a chilled environment.
- Basic understanding of food hygiene practices.
Qualifications and Experience (Desirable):
- Previous experience in a butchery, abattoir, or food manufacturing environment.
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or equivalent).
- Experience operating butchery or food production machinery.
Work Authorisation:
- Must be eligible to work in United Kingdom.
- Position is on-site, based in Coleraine
Pay: £13.33 per hour
