Frex Logistics Network provides flexible and reliable transport solutions throughout the UK and Europe. Our services include urgent same-day transport, scheduled deliveries, multi-drop distribution, two-person delivery, international shipping, e-commerce fulfilment and warehousing support.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an organised and proactive Part-Time Logistics Planner to join our Birmingham-based operation.
There may be an opportunity for this position to become full-time as the business and workload continue to grow.
THE ROLE
As our Logistics Planner, you will help coordinate daily collections and deliveries, allocate work to drivers and subcontractors, monitor live transport jobs and ensure customers receive a reliable and professional service.
This is a fast-paced position that requires strong organisation, confident decision-making and excellent communication.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning same-day, scheduled, multi-drop and time-critical deliveries
- Allocating jobs to employed and subcontracted drivers
- Selecting the correct vehicle for each consignment
- Sourcing suitable vehicles through our transport network
- Negotiating competitive rates with subcontractors
- Planning efficient routes and reducing unnecessary mileage
- Monitoring live deliveries from collection through to completion
- Communicating job information clearly to drivers
- Providing customers with regular collection and delivery updates
- Obtaining and recording proof of delivery
- Responding quickly to delays, vehicle issues and changing requirements
- Maintaining accurate job, mileage, cost and delivery records
- Checking driver, vehicle and subcontractor documentation
- Building strong relationships with customers, drivers and transport partners
- Supporting the wider operations team when required
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Excellent telephone and written communication
- Ability to manage several live transport jobs simultaneously
- Confidence working under pressure and meeting deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good customer-service skills
- Commercial awareness when sourcing vehicles and agreeing rates
- Confidence using email, Microsoft Office and computer-based systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable:
- Previous experience in transport planning or logistics coordination
- Experience within courier, haulage or freight operations
- Knowledge of UK roads, regions and major transport routes
- Understanding of commercial vehicle types and load capacities
- Experience working with subcontracted drivers
- Experience using transport-management systems or courier-exchange platforms
- Knowledge of European or international transport operations

WORKING HOURS
Approximately 20–25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
The exact working pattern can be discussed during the interview. Some flexibility may be required to support urgent deliveries and changing operational requirements.
LOCATION
This is an office-based position in Birmingham.
