Experienced Bookkeeper (Self-Employed)
Location: Hybrid Remote with occasional visits to our Wolverhampton office
Pay: £30 per hour
Hours: Flexible, 2–10 hours per week
Contract: Self-employed / Freelance preferred
About Us
We are a independent healthcare business looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to take ownership of our bookkeeping function. We value accuracy, efficiency and professionalism, and we're looking for someone who can become a trusted part of our business for the long term.
This is a flexible role, with working hours and days arranged to suit both parties.
The Role
You will be responsible for ensuring our financial records are accurate, up to date and well organised, while working independently with minimal supervision.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing day-to-day bookkeeping using QuickBooks
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Preparing and submitting UK VAT returns
- Purchase and sales ledger management
- Processing supplier invoices and payments
- Maintaining accurate financial records
- Assisting with month-end procedures
- Liaising with our external accountant where required
- Identifying discrepancies and resolving issues
- Recommending improvements to financial systems and processes
Essential Requirements
To be considered, you must have:
- Significant UK bookkeeping experience
- Advanced working knowledge of QuickBooks
- Extensive experience preparing and submitting UK VAT returns
- Experience working with UK limited companies
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organisational skills
- The ability to work independently with very little supervision
- A proactive approach and the confidence to solve problems
- High standards of professionalism and confidentiality
Desirable
- AAT qualification or equivalent experience
- Payroll experience
- Experience supporting SMEs
- Experience within healthcare or other professional service businesses

Due to the nature of this role, we're looking for an experienced bookkeeper who can take ownership from day one with minimal supervision. If your experience does not include UK bookkeeping, QuickBooks and independently preparing VAT returns, this position is unlikely to be suitable.
We are looking for someone who can add value from day one. If you feel you would require significant training or support in any of the core areas above, this role is unlikely to be the right fit.
