Job Overview
The Physiotherapist will assess and support the physical health, mobility and wellbeing of children and young people in residential care. The role includes developing exercise and mobility programmes, monitoring progress, providing advice on posture and movement, maintaining records, and liaising with relevant professionals to promote independence and physical wellbeing.
Duties
- Assess children’s physical mobility, posture, strength, flexibility, balance and functional needs.
- Review relevant medical and care information and maintain accurate records.
- Develop individualised physiotherapy, exercise and mobility programmes.
- Provide therapeutic exercises to improve strength, mobility, coordination and physical function.
- Provide age-appropriate advice on posture, exercise, movement and injury prevention.
- Monitor children’s progress and adapt programmes where necessary.
- Liaise with parents/carers, social workers, GPs, education staff and other relevant professionals.
- Identify concerns requiring further medical or specialist assessment and make appropriate referrals.
- Provide guidance to residential care staff on agreed exercises, mobility and physical wellbeing strategies.
- Promote independence, participation and overall physical wellbeing.
- Maintain professional, safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection standards.
- Work within professional competence, registration requirements and the organisation’s regulatory framework.
Qualifications
- Experience in physiotherapy, preferably with children or young people.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, mobility and rehabilitation.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to assess needs, plan exercises and monitor progress.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Relevant physiotherapy qualification and UK professional registration.
- Understanding of safeguarding and professional standards.
