Solar Electrical Design Engineer – Must-Have RequirementsMust-Have Skills & Experience
- Electrically qualified (Degree, HNC/HND, NVQ, or equivalent electrical qualification).
- Proven experience designing commercial and/or utility-scale solar PV systems.
- Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with SolarEdge products, monitoring platforms, and system design.
- Highly proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD, with the ability to produce professional, accurate, and client-ready electrical drawings.
- Experienced in creating detailed Solar PV Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layouts, cable schedules, and associated technical documentation.
- Ability to carry out AC electrical site surveys and translate survey information into accurate, buildable electrical designs.
- Strong understanding of UK electrical regulations, BS 7671, and industry best practice.
- Confident in troubleshooting technical issues alongside on-site engineers and providing practical engineering solutions.
- Able to work effectively within a small, collaborative team, maintaining close communication with:
- Project Managers
- Site Engineers
- Commercial Design Manager
- Installation Teams
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce designs suitable for review by senior engineers and major commercial clients.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce professional AutoCAD drawings for commercial solar PV installations.
- Create accurate and detailed Solar PV SLDs and electrical design documentation.
- Conduct AC electrical site surveys and develop compliant design packages from survey data.
- Work closely with Project Managers, the Commercial Design Manager, and site teams to ensure designs are practical and deliverable.
- Provide technical support to on-site engineers, assisting with troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues.
- Ensure all designs meet client specifications, UK regulations, and industry standards before submission to stakeholders.
Pay: £36,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
