Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm (40 hours per week)
Salary: £31,500 per annum
Location: Guildford and surrounding areas, including Woking, Aldershot and the South Coast
Contract: Permanent
Annual Leave: 25 days, plus your birthday off and all Bank Holidays
About the Role
EHSL provides high-quality supported housing for vulnerable adults. We are committed to maintaining safe, clean and well-presented homes and outdoor spaces for our tenants.
We are looking for a Grounds & Maintenance Operative to join our Property Services team. This is a hands-on, mobile role with a strong focus on grounds maintenance, gardening, external cleaning and general caretaking, alongside basic property maintenance.
You'll travel between EHSL properties, working independently and as part of a team to keep our gardens, communal areas and properties looking their best.
Key Responsibilities
Grounds & Gardening
- Grass cutting, strimming and edging.
- Hedge trimming, pruning and weeding.
- General garden and flowerbed maintenance.
- Clearing leaves, branches and garden waste.
- Maintaining paths, driveways and external areas.
- Identifying and reporting outdoor hazards and defects.
Cleaning & Caretaking
- Jet washing paths, patios and communal areas.
- External window cleaning where required.
- Cleaning communal areas and shared spaces.
- Removing waste where required
- General caretaking duties across EHSL properties.
Minor Maintenance
- Basic repairs to fences, gates and external fixtures.
- Minor painting, carpentry and general repairs.
- Basic plumbing tasks where appropriately trained.
- Reporting more complex repairs to the relevant team.
Health & Safety
- Work safely in accordance with EHSL policies, procedures and risk assessments.
- Use tools, machinery and PPE correctly.
- Identify and report hazards and maintenance issues.
- Maintain safe and tidy working areas.
About You
We are looking for someone who is reliable, practical and hardworking, with a genuine pride in their work and surroundings.
You should enjoy working outdoors, be comfortable with physical work and have a positive "can-do" attitude. Previous experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, cleaning, caretaking or property maintenance would be advantageous.
Essential Requirements
- 25+ years old due to EHSL's block van insurance.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Previous practical experience in grounds, gardening, cleaning, caretaking or maintenance.
- Good level of physical fitness.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Willingness to travel between EHSL properties.
