You will be responsible for providing a safe, reliable and friendly transport service for children travelling between the nursery, schools and agreed collection/drop-off points. The driver will ensure that children are transported safely and in accordance with nursery policies, safeguarding requirements and UK road traffic legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport children to and from school/ nursery.
- Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report any defects or concerns immediately.
- Ensure children are correctly secured using appropriate seat belts or child restraints.
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-presented vehicle.
- Follow agreed routes, schedules and collection/drop-off arrangements.
- Ensure children are safely handed over to an authorised member of nursery/school staff or approved adult.
- Maintain accurate records of journeys, collections and drop-offs where required.
- Communicate professionally with parents, carers, nursery staff and school staff.
- Report any safeguarding, welfare, behavioural or health concerns to the Nursery Manager promptly.
- Follow the nursery's safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and emergency procedures.
- Respond appropriately to accidents, incidents or emergencies and complete relevant documentation.
- Ensure no child is left unattended in the vehicle.
- Comply with all relevant driving, vehicle and child-safety legislation.
- Carry out other reasonable duties requested by the Nursery Manager.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
The driver will have regular contact with children and is expected to maintain the highest standards of safeguarding. They must:
- Promote children's welfare and safety at all times.
- Follow the nursery's safeguarding and child-protection procedures.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children.
- Report any concerns about a child's welfare immediately through the appropriate procedure.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children and their families.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Full, valid UK driving licence appropriate for the vehicle being driven.
- Good driving record and responsible attitude to road safety.
- Experience of driving professionally or transporting passengers is desirable.
- Reliable, punctual and patient.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working with young children.
- Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in an emergency.
- Willingness to undertake required checks and training, including an appropriate DBS check.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working in a nursery, school or childcare environment.
- Previous experience transporting children.
- First Aid qualification, particularly Paediatric First Aid.
- Knowledge of local schools and surrounding areas.
